The key to being successful in video, or any field for that matter isn't any secret, in fact the greatest hump is taking that initial step. So, in light of this, I've chose to list the crucial steps that ought to be taken, along with some helpful tips, which should help get you on the path to successfully creating video and marketing yourself and your work. First, you have to have some footage in the can. You will need to, obviously, ensure that the footage is a few of your very best work. The more folks you get yourself in front of the better. It may suck to listen to this but you can only hide in the shadow of the internet for so long. Good, old-fashioned legwork is the greatest way to have yourself some work, or at minimum get new contacts. Often times, people believe that sending out an email and pointing someone at an internet site will have the desired effect, but unless that employer or producer has actually met you, they'll think hard about putting you in front of one of their clients. My best contacts will believe me with some of their clients. This is actually the goal, to get at a point where they trust you using their clients, cause them to become look good and they will call you back for more work. The clients may even start requesting you for more of the work. One rule to remember if you are in production for another company. Do not distribute your own personal personal business cards! This is bad business, you can easily be called a person that tries to steal clients. For starters, this makes you appear bad, you won't get any more work from the company that hired you and you run the danger of gaining a bad reputation, and in this business reputation is everything. Burn a connection and you never know when it'll hurt you in the future.
